Discover the delights of Restaurante Incomum by Luis Santos, considered one of the best restaurants in the city of Sintra, in Portugal.
UNUSUAL RESTAURANT BY LUIS SANTOS
Restaurante Incomum by Luis Santos was founded in 2014 after years of experience by the chef, who started as a kitchen helper in Switzerland. The idea was to create a gastronomic space with creative dishes served in an elegant and refined environment, but at the same time contemporary and welcoming, with a dedicated team of staff.
With the best of Portuguese cuisine, the restaurant has a menu with many interesting options that include snacks, soups, starters, pasta, fish, meats, even tasting menu with 5 dishes. Although few, there are also some vegetarian and vegan options that make the menu quite inclusive.
OUR EXPERIENCE IN UNUSUAL RESTAURANT
The first time we were at Uncomum, we tried to have dinner at the restaurant, but we couldn't. The tables were all reserved and wouldn't be vacated until around two and a half hours later. We left a reservation made for dinner the next day and went to dinner at the Sintra root. We returned the next day for dinner and the tables outside were already taken and the waiter took us to a table in the restaurant's lounge.
We told the waiter that we were vegan and he went to inform the kitchen so that none of our dishes had ingredients of animal origin. We start by asking for a Red wine it is a couvert with Portuguese olive oil, seasoned olives and warm bread. We then received a gift from the kitchen which consisted of a small individual portion guacamole with nachos.
For the main dishes, I ordered the Browned Sweet Potato, Baked Vegetables and Spinach and Paul asked Asparagus Risotto, Island Cheese and Truffles which has been adapted for the vegan version by removing the cheese, milk and butter.
We were already more than satisfied, but we concluded with dessert: sorbet (ice creams prepared without milk) of strawberry and coconut. Although it took a while for them to take our service initially, the restaurant service is very good, with attentive and very helpful waiters.
Whenever we find vegan options on the menu of a non-vegan restaurant, we are overjoyed. It is very nice to know that they are concerned with serving customers in a democratic way and making changes whenever necessary. But, we are also honest enough to say that our dinner at this restaurant was one of the most expensive we had during the trip, but the dishes, while delicious, still have room for improvement. It is very interesting to see how chefs have evolved in this regard and, therefore, we are sure that, soon, the restaurant will offer even tastier options on the menu.
