Strolling through Los Angeles and would you like to have a different dining experience? An interesting option is to visit the Roosevelt Hotel restaurant in Hollywood, a famous hotel full of stories to tell. We were there recently and we report on our experience there.

THE ROOSEVELT HOTEL AND THE CINEMA

The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel is a famous and renowned four star hotel in the Hollywood area that opened its doors in 1927. It was named in honor of former US President Theodore Roosevelt. It cost somewhere around US$ 34 million (current figures) to complete this twelve-story building, which has 300 rooms. The hotel has hosted many celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, Charlie Chaplin, Clark Gable and Carole Lombard.

Curiosities:
  • The hotel hosted the first Oscars ceremony history, in 1929, in the Blossom room, which has a capacity for 250 people. And the ceremony lasted about 15 minutes! Very different from the 3 hours of today, isn't it? As it was considered small, it was not considered to hold the following year's ceremony there.
  • Marilyn Monroe lived at the Roosevelt Hotel for 2 years, during which her career as a model took off. The photos of the first campaign for which she posed were taken inside the famous hotel.
  • There are reports that the hotel is haunted. Rumors involve a girl in a blue dress, Marilyn Monroe and phones ringing without explanation in the middle of the night.

Cinematic Trivia: The hotel was the setting for Hollywood movies and series, such as: “Hardwood Cop II” (1987), “Susie and the Baker Boys” (1989), “Blind Justice” (1990), “Mighty Joe” ( 1998), “Catch Me If You Can” (2002), “Charming Angels” (2003), and the TV series “I Love Lucy” (1951-1957).

THE PUBLIC KITCHEN RESTAURANT & BAR

O Public Kitchen & Bar is an American brasserie created by Executive Chef Tim Goodell. It is located in the historic main lobby of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. The restaurant has a very interesting decor, with chic bronze chandeliers, ornate leather banquettes, a wall of lush greenery and a historic mural. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very cozy, with yellow light and candles on the table.

The restaurant serves a wide variety of types of food that include: salads, soups, sandwiches, cold cuts, pasta, meat, fish and seafood. The drinks menu is also varied with colorful drinks, wines, beers and various types of drinks (whiskey, vodka, tequila, among others).

We went for dinner and had excellent service from the restaurant staff. We started with a delicious homemade bread sprinkled with Parmesan as a starter.

Our dishes were very tasty. Ana ordered the “Rigatoni Bolognese”, made with beef and veal, accompanied by Parmesan cheese and Paulo ordered the “Pork Chop”, a pork fillet seasoned with garlic and accompanied by broccoli and mashed potatoes.

The Public Kitchen & Bar can be an interesting option for those in the Hollywood area. But here is the hint that it is far from being on the list of the cheapest in the region. The rigatoni cost US$ 25 and the pork dish US$ 26. What was worth it was the experience of being in the most famous hotel in Hollywood!

  1. […] The Hollywood Roosevelt is the most traditional hotel in Hollywood and, without a doubt, the best located, facing the Chinese Theater. Many celebrities have stayed in its 300 rooms. It is a 4-star hotel and is not on the cheapest list, but it can be a good option if you are traveling to celebrate a special occasion. The hotel offers guests an Olympic-sized outdoor heated pool, 5 dining options, a garden for massages and a gym. WiFi connection and parking are charged separately. We were at the Public Kitchen restaurant located inside the Roosevelt Hotel and we tell our experience in this post. […]
