Discover the historic Café Hauptwache in Frankfurt, housed in an 18th-century building, a traditional place to taste the delights of German cuisine.
GERMANY: CAFE HAUPTWACHE IN FRANKFURT
Café Hauptwache in Frankfurt was the first place we ate once we arrived in the city. We had already heard about him and we couldn't help but taste the delights of German cuisine. And it all starts with the historic baroque-style building, built in 1730, in which the restaurant is housed. It is not by chance that the place, in addition to serving delicious food, is also a tourist spot in the city, as it is located right in the center of Frankfurt.

The place, long before being a restaurant, was a Casa da Guarda and, later, a prison. The prison remained and the Hauptwache also became a police station until it became a restaurant in 1904. The building was heavily damaged in World War II by bombing. In 1967, due to the construction of the city's subway tunnel, the building was completely dismantled and later rebuilt.
The restaurant has tables both inside and outside, which is very popular on hot days. And luckily for us, it was a very pleasant late European summer night and we sat outside to enjoy the movement of the square. But let's talk about what matters? Food! We were hungry after a long connection at the airport and we were already asking for a basket of breads with delicious ducklings to start. Paulo was thirsty for a nice German beer and already took advantage of the momentum to order a large glass!
Then we ordered our dishes. Paulo went for a combination of German sausages and pork, accompanied by mashed potatoes and Ana ordered a dish that she loves with passion Schnitzel, breaded pork, which had an amazing herb sauce and all accompanied by golden potatoes . A delight!
The service at the place is great, the staff are super attentive and helpful. We started our trip through Frankfurt on the right foot and with a belly full of delicious German food!
