HOW TO GET AROUND NEW YORK

The best way to get around New York is by subway and on foot. Manhattan is very easy to get around because the streets and avenues are numbered in sequence. As the subway lines are many and with many stations, this makes moving around New York much easier. One tip is to buy the MetroCard, a transport card to be used on the subway that can be purchased for 7 days at the cost of US$ 31 and use it at will or you can load as much as you want when you need it. Although the New York subway is very efficient, don't be alarmed as, in general, the stations are old and ugly. We've already seen rats walking around the platform (seriously!).

It is currently best known for its array of stores ranging from trendy luxury boutiques to chain stores. Nearly all of SoHo was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and declared a National Historic Landmark in 1978. The site comprises 26 blocks and nearly 500 buildings, many of which incorporate cast-iron architectural elements.

OFF-BROADWAY SHOWS

One off-Broadway production are artistic attractions held in theaters with smaller capacity (between 100 and 499 seats). It can be a play, a musical, a concert, etc. In general, off-Broadway theater productions are cheaper to produce, invest less in advertising, and are also less well known. The off-Broadway name became known because most productions are performed in theaters outside the Broadway District in the heart of New York. We selected 3 of them tested and approved by us!

SPORTS EVENT

We, who love sports, don't miss a chance to go to a sporting event when we're in New York. But it's worth noting that practically all gyms and stadiums (with the exception of Madison Square Garden) are outside Manhattan (see location on the map at the beginning of this post). Calculate your travel time well so you won't be late! To buy tickets for the events we recommend the Ticketmaster and sites that resell tickets like StubHub and VividSeats.

WHERE TO STAY IN NEW YORK

We've been to New York several times and we thought it was interesting to stay close to Central Park when we wanted to have a really touristy experience. The area is great because it is within walking distance of several attractions and has several stations nearby. If you don't like crowds, an interesting neighborhood to stay is Chelsea, it's quieter, has great restaurants and a delicious vibe. See what we've already written about accommodation in New York.

  1. […] New York – Before living abroad, we had already visited New York City on at least 4 occasions. But after that, Paulo went to the city during the period when he was doing his master's at Stanford University and working at Google. My last time in NYC was in 2013. Finally, I managed to fulfill the dream of seeing the whole city decorated for Christmas! On the last day, we had the opportunity to catch the first blizzard of the season in the city.
