Check out this super healthy eating tip with vegetarian and vegan options in London. The Gate Restaurants has 3 locations in the city and has been offering high quality dining for decades.
THE GATE RESTAURANTS
The Gate is not just one, but three delicious restaurants located in London. The company was founded in 1989 with the aim of promoting healthy eating. It is currently recognized as one of the best vegetarian and vegan restaurants in London. The units are located in the neighborhoods of Islington, marylebone and Hammersmith. The Marylebone facility offers al fresco dining close to Marble Arch and Hyde Park, just minutes from famous Oxford Street. The Islington restaurant, on the other hand, is close to Sadler's Wells Theater and the well-known Upper Street, the main street in the neighborhood. The Gate Hammersmith is situated on a small side street behind the Hammersmith Apollo, with its own open garden terrace.
O menu includes delicious and varied options. the “a la carte” menu, a fixed-price lunchtime menu, plus a brunch special for children, and a special menu for the “Sunday Roast”, the famous “Sunday roast”, a tradition british. All menu options are vegetarian, and the vast majority are vegan or have a vegan option available. There are also several gluten-free options. For those who are a fan of food, you can even buy books with healthy recipes and other items at virtual store.

OUR EXPERIENCE AT THE GATE
We visited the Islington unit, the neighborhood where we lived for 1 year and a half, we loved it and talked about it in the post “Angel: Vibrant neighborhood unknown to tourists in London“. We made a reservation in advance through the restaurant's official website to guarantee a good table at dinner time. We started by ordering a bottle of French red wine. We were hungry and ordered the “Artichoke Terrine” (Artichoke terrine) as a starter, which seemed like a fantastic option for us to share. Unfortunately, the order “got lost” and the main dishes were brought to us directly.
MAIN DISHES
I asked for one “Barley & Parsnip Cake”, a barley cake with parsnip, a type of root reminiscent of mandioquinha. The dish was accompanied by grilled artichoke, broccoli and pesto.
Paul asked “Aubergine Schnitzel”, a “schnitzel” made from zucchini, layered with cashew nut “cheese”, basil pesto, tomatoes, potatoes, caramelized onions, served with sautéed kale and horseradish sauce.
ECONOMY IN LONDON: ACTIVITY CARDS
For those who want to do many things and visit many paid places in London, the suggestion is to purchase one of the cards that give you direct access to attractions and ride the tourist bus, saving a lot! O THE LONDON PASS is the most famous of them. The card can be purchased in versions of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 10 days. It entitles you to admission to over 60 of London's top attractions and 1 day tour on the hop-on hop-off sightseeing bus. In addition, the card offers more than 20 exclusive special offers at some of the city's shops and restaurants. See the full list of included attractions in this link. Price: from £69.

ACCOMPANIMENTS
To accompany our dishes, we predict “Chunky herb polenta chips with garlic aioli”, which was a delicious and crispy fried polenta with herbs and “Rocket salad, blushed tomatoes, balsamic reduction”, an arugula salad, with tomatoes and balsamic vinegar reduction. The dishes were delicious and the starters even more so! The arugula in the salad was fresh and the polenta sticks were warm, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
DESSERT
Finally, we ordered dessert. We always share dessert because although Paulo loves sweets, I've never been a big fan. I always take a couple of spoonfuls and I'm satisfied. We ask for the “British Strawberry Mousse”, a British strawberry mousse, decorated with dark chocolate, raspberry jam, fresh berries and passion fruit sauce.
We wanted to try a lot of the menu and go back there on other occasions such as lunch, brunch and Sunday Roast, which has different menus. The food was very delicious and the atmosphere was very pleasant. The waiter who served us was Italian, whose girlfriend was Portuguese. That's why he started talking to us, scratching Portuguese with all the friendliness in the world!
