THE PREMIER LEAGUE

THE Premier League is the league that brings together the elite of English football, with the top 20 teams in the country. Considered one of the most competitive leagues on the planet, the competition was founded as the FA Premier League in 1992 after the decision of the clubs of the First Division of the Football League to separate from the Football League founded in 1888. seasons usually start in August and end in May of the following year, with each team playing 38 games. Every year, three teams drop to the “second division” (English Football League Championship) and another three teams go up. Fifty clubs have competed in the tournament since the Premier League's inception, 48 English and 2 Welsh. However, only 7 of them have won the title of the competition since its creation date in 1992:

THE CITIES OF THE PREMIER LEAGUE TEAMS 2023-2024

The 2023-2024 season will be played from August 11, 2023 to May 19, 2024, counting on 20 teams distributed in 12 different cities. In alphabetical order, they are: Birmingham, Bournemouth, Brighton, burnley, Liverpool, London, luton, Manchester, Newcastle upon Tyne, Nottingham, Southampton and Wolverhampton. 1. BIRMINGHAM

Located in the West Midlands, just over 200 km northwest of London, Birmingham is the city of Aston Villa Football Club, football team founded in 1874. Aston Villa is one of the oldest and most successful English clubs, being the fifth with the highest number of important titles. The team sends its matches in the Villa Park stadium, opened in 1897, with capacity for just under 43,000 people. This stadium has hosted matches from the 1966 World Cup, Euro 1996 and FA Cup semi-finals and offers guided tours from £17.

With a population of over 1.1 million, Birmingham is the second largest city in not only England, but of all UK (which still gathers the Wales, Scotland and northern Ireland). The city of Birmingham was the cradle of heavy metal, with pioneering metal bands during the 1960s and 1970s, including Black Sabbath (musician Ozzy Osbourne was born in the city), Judas Priest and Duran Duran. Some highlights of Birmingham are the Victoria Square, one of the main squares, ground zero of the city and where the City Hall is located; San Felipe Cathedral, Birmingham's main church; the beautiful Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, the main art gallery in the city; the futuristic building birmingham library; O Canalside Walk, a delightful promenade on the edge of the canal that runs through the city; and the Cadbury chocolate factory.

2. BOURNEMOUTH

Bournemouth is a seaside town located just over 170 km south of London and is the seat of the Athletic Football Club Bournemouth, a football team founded in 1890 that plays its matches in the dean court (currently known as Vitality Stadium due to a sponsorship agreement), opened in 1910, with a capacity for just over 11,000 spectators. It was only in the 2015-16 season that AFC Bournemouth played in the Premier League for the first time. The stadium does not offer regular guided tours, but some occasional events throughout the year.

The town that gives the name to the club is in the Dorset region, was officially founded in 1810 and, in the past, was a relatively deserted place, usually frequented by fishermen and smugglers. Later, he became a well-known resort with health spas. In 1870, the arrival of the railroad spurred the development of the city. The center of Bournemouth has a remarkable victorian architecture and its sandy beach (most beaches in the south of England are pebble) attracts around 5 million visitors every year. 3. BRIGHTON

Founded in 1901, Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club is the official team of Brighton and Hove (better known as Brighton), a charming seaside town in the south of England, in the East Sussex region. Its official stadium is Falmer Stadium (also known as American Express Community Stadium or simply amex stadium, due to a sponsorship agreement), with capacity for almost 31 thousand people. Take advantage of the tour to discover the friendly city of Brighton, one of my favorites in the south of England. The city began to attract more visitors after the installation of a railway that connected it to London, becoming an important point of embarkation for ships traveling to France. Brighton was also famous as a resort for therapeutic sea bathing as a supposed cure for ailments. The Prince Regent (who later became King George IV) spent much of his time in the city and decided to build a palace, the must-see royal pavilion, the only English royal palace that no longer belongs to the British Crown, in the Indo-Saracen style prevalent in India for most of the 19th century. 4. BURNLEY

The town of Burnley is home to the Burnley Football Club, known as The Clarets, a team founded in 1882. The club became one of the first in history to become a professional football team. The club became part of the FA Cup in the 1885-86 season and were one of the 12 founding members of the Football League. I haven't had the opportunity to visit it yet, but it seems to be a very interesting city, with origins in the medieval period, becoming prominent during the Industrial Revolution, when it became one of the world's largest producers of cotton fabric and an important center of engineering. Among the main attractions of the city are the museum towneley hall; the historic residence Gawthorpe Hall; O thompson park; the work of art Singing Ringing Tree; it's the Queen Street Mill Textile Museum, the last surviving 19th-century steam-powered weaving mill in the world.

5. LIVERPOOL

Located just over 340 km northwest of London in the county of Merseyside, the city of Liverpool is not only the home of the beatles, but also two Premier League football teams: the Liverpool Football Club it's the Everton Football Club.

7. LUTON

Luton Town Football Club is the team from the city of Luton, a city just over 50 km from the English capital and home to one of the 6 London airports. Founded in 1885, it is nicknamed “The Hatters” due to the city's historical association with the hat trade. Since 1905, the club sends its matches in the Kenilworth Road, with capacity for just over 10.3 thousand people. The club's history is marked by several financial crises and several relegations. As it is very close to London, Luton can be reached easily by train. I confess that I was only at the city's airport and never had the opportunity to get to know it better. Nottingham is famous for the story of Robin Hood, who would have lived in the 12th century, at the time of King Richard the Lionheart and the Crusades. 11. SHEFFIELD

The city of Sheffield has a long sporting heritage and is home to the oldest football club in the world, Sheffield FC, founded on October 24, 1857. Located in the West Midlands county, Woverhampton is a city of just over 260,000 inhabitants that is home to the football team Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club, also known as Wolves. Founded in 1877 as St. Luke's FC, Wolves changed their name two years later. In the 1950s, they won the English League three times. During the 1980s, it suffered from a very serious financial crisis, being relegated four times. I haven't had the opportunity to visit Wolverhampton yet, but the city seems to be very friendly, interesting and with a rich history.
