Winter is a magical time in the small town of Aspen. We count in one previous post our experience of spending New Year's Eve in the city and the temperature sensation of almost -30ºC that we face. For those who are thinking of passing through the city during these cold months to enjoy skiing or snowboarding, we already warn you that Aspen has very steep accommodation prices. We stayed in a very well located hotel that we consider to be a very interesting lodging tip in Aspen, Colorado.
ASPEN ACCOMMODATION TIP
Our Aspen trip included other places like Denver and the hotel of what inspired the book “The Shining” at Estes Park and so we rented a car in Denver, spent a few days there, and then hit the road to Aspen. Anyone who can avoid taking the road during the period when it snows, avoid it! It is extremely slippery and dangerous. When we arrived in Aspen, we returned the car because the hotel we booked was in the city center and we were able to do everything on foot. Aspen has 4 ski resorts (Snowmass, Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk), which are easily accessible by free buses that depart from the city center and have several stops.
We think that our option of staying without a car in the city was a good one, because only then could we get to know it in full, since we walked all over the city on foot. Was cold? Certainly! Nobody goes to a city where the main attraction is ski resorts and isn't expecting to be cold, right?
The hotel we stayed in was the Molly Gibson Lodge, a great 3 star option. The bus stop that took you to the ski resorts was right in front of the hotel, WiFi and parking were included in the room rate. As it was the end of the year, the hotel was decorated with Christmas lights, making the atmosphere even more cozy.

O breakfast is also available for all guests and it is quite diverse, unlike most American hotels. Daily, during the afternoon, the hotel also offered free cheeses, wines, breads and biscuits that were available in the same place where breakfast is served. This was a super pleasant surprise that we had to be able to eat some snacks at the end of the afternoon.
Another advantage of the hotel is to provide a free shuttle between hotel and Aspen airport (vice versa) via a van. We ended up using the service when we dropped off the car at the airport and needed a ride back to the city center. The driver that took us was super fun and gave us tips about the ski resorts in town. The hotel's location was great because we allowed to go to bars and restaurants on foot. One of the restaurants we recommend is only fondue restaurant in town. We could drink without worrying about driving afterwards.
For a mess on our flight that we already told previously, we ended up having to extend our stay for 1 more day and we changed rooms. Both were very comfortable with a large bed and good quality mattresses. One of them even had a fireplace that made the atmosphere in the room super romantic.
If you dare to take a dip to relax after a day of skiing, the hotel has a heated swimming pool. And for those who like to travel with their pet, the hotel is pet friendly, but you have to pay an additional fee.
